A flash fire at a manufacturing plant Monday morning in Wallingford, Connecticut, sent one worker to the hospital with injuries, a spokesman for the Wallingford Fire Department said.

Lt. Jeff Dingler told WFSB that workers were in the process of using a machine designed to harden metals.

“In that process the furnace that runs it had a flash fire,” Dingler said. “There was one employee working in that area who sustained some burns.”

Firefighters were dispatched in response to an automatic alarm from the scene. However, the brief fire was out by the time firefighters arrived.

“There were smoke conditions in the building and we had to ventilate,” Dingler said.
