Syncrude emergency crews responded to reports of an accident Sunday morning involving a contract worker  at its Aurora site in northeastern Alberta. Unfortunately the worker was fatally injured despite emergency response efforts.

“This is devastating news for all of us at Syncrude. The safety and well-being of our employees and contractors is always our top concern,” says Steve Yatauro, Senior Vice President, Production. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.”

Syncrude is working with the RCMP and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. “We have also commenced our own investigation to find out what happened,” adds Yatauro.

No other workers were injured in this incident. No other information was released by Syncrude.
