An explosion triggered the partial collapse of a burning factory during firefighting operations Thursday morning in the Peeragarhi area of Delhi, India, injuring at least 12 emergency responders, some trapped beneath the fallen debris.

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s chief minister, used Facebook to express his concerns about the emergency.

“I am closely monitoring the situation,” Kejriwal said. “Fire personnel are trying their best. Praying for the safety of those trapped.”

Authorities report that the explosion collapsed the rear portion of the building without warning. Responders brought the fire under control, then turned to rescue operations to reach those trapped.

The collapsed building served as a warehouse for the storage of batteries.
