The REV Group, Inc. has acquired Spartan Emergency Response, which makes it the second largest fire apparatus manufacturer in North America, according to the company.

Spartan Motors, Inc. sold the unit for about $55 million in the Feb. 1 deal, which was announced Monday.

As part of the purchase, the REV Group acquired Spartan's apparatus and custom chassis, aerial ladder, and UST businesses. The UST brand specializes in stainless steel fire truck tankers. The new assets will be added to REV's fire and emergency segment, which also includes E-One, Ferrara, and KME apparatus brands.

The acquisition will help REV offer "significant production scale, diverse product offerings, wide-ranging channel relationships and broad geographic sales coverage," according to a release.

"We are excited to acquire a top North American fire apparatus manufacturer of scale with a well-recognized, innovative and broad product offering, long-standing relationships with dealers and municipal customers, and a growing installed base of over 6,000 vehicles," states Tim Sullivan, President and CEO of REV Group. "It’s our long-term strategy to continue to grow this segment, as well as continue to establish REV Group as a leader in the innovation of fire apparatus and other emergency response vehicles."
