Fire swept through a cement factory Monday on an island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada.

A decision is pending on whether the St-Isidore Asphalte plant on Lamèque Island in New Brunswick is a total loss, company officials told the local press. Management said it intends to rebuild the cement plant that serves the city of Shippagan and the islands of Lamèque and Miscou.

Fire brigades from Lamèque, Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphael and Shippagan responded to the scene.

The fire also destroyed a structure on neighboring property.
