A conveyor belt running between two buildings caught fire Friday and threatened to spread flames throughout a waste recycling facility in Gary, Indiana, local media reports.

Firefighters struggled for nearly three hours to keep the fire isolated before extinguishing it, officials report.

According to the website for Vexor Engineered Fuel, the facility manufactures alternative fuels from non-hazardous industrial and commercial materials that have been discarded. Those materials include industrial waste, paper, cardboard and plastics.
