A factory specializing in rubber for shoes caught fire Thursday morning in southeast Brazil.

Flames spread quickly at the factory in Franca because of flammable chemicals stored on site, fire officials said. The fire soon compromised the factory roof which collapsed, making it difficult for firefighters to enter the burning structure.

Firefighters from nearby Ribeirao Preto responded to a mutual aid request made by Franca. The fire was brought under control Thursday morning.

No personnel were working when the fire broke out. The cause has yet to be determined.
