Five people suffered smoke inhalation Monday night while using fire extinguishers to battle a mattress factory fire in southern Brazil.

Authorities in Chapecó suspect that the fire broke out in machinery that processes foam used in the mattresses. The factory, located in an industrial area of the town, received extensive damage.

Working nearly two hours, firefighters used nearly 7,000 liters of water to extinguish the fire. Heavy equipment was needed to remove the burned mattress foam and prevent rekindling.
