Fire that swept through nearly a ton of waste stored outdoors at a car plant Friday in eastern Mexico, threatening to reach the production floor.

Instead, in-house firefighters joined with responders from the local Fire and Civil Protection Unit in Tepeapulco to extinguish the flames without major production damage at Chinese-owned JAC Motors, the newspaper El Sol de Tulancingo reports.

Only two fire trucks were necessary to put of the fire generating columns of smoke that could be seen for miles. Emergency responders cordoned off the area due to the intense smoke, the newspaper states.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters cooled down surrounding exposures and checked for any hot spots that could rekindle.
