Authorities estimate damages in the millions from a fire Tuesday morning atop a 30-meter-high animal feed mill in east central Germany.

Nearly 84 responders were called to the Ospelt Group feed mill in Apolda, northeast of Weimar, in a large-scale mutual aid operation that included an aerial device brought from Bad Kösen, more than 26 kilometers away.

Workers safely evacuated the building before firefighters arrived, local media report. Area residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to strong smoke.

Firefighters were still on the scene as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.
