An escalating brushfire in the Carmel region in northern Israel Monday threatened a natural gas refinery and other industrial facilities.

Fire crews on the ground aided by planes dropping water overhead managed to contain the blaze near Yokne’am and Kiryat Tivon south of Haifa, local media reports.

An industrial zone evacuated in advance of the fire is home to the PRMS natural gas refinery, serving the Leviathan offshore rig. Officials said the natural gas supply will continue despite the emergency.

“Israel Natural Gas Lines personnel are tracking the fire, with no immediate danger to the facility,” an Energy Ministry statement reads.

Officials estimated that 1,500 acres had been damaged by the fire.
