An LNG tanker truck exploded in eastern China Saturday afternoon killing 18 and injuring at least 166 as fire engulfed nearby homes and businesses.

Video captured the disaster about 4 p.m. near Wenling from multiple angles. In one instance, mobile dash cam footage shows a large vehicle launched by the blast rocketing above traffic before impacting with buildings blocks away. Another vantage shows a young boy peering at smoke in the distance only moments before the blast smashes every surrounding window.

Massive roiling flames and black smoke enveloped a large section of the city after the explosion. Rescue workers searched through scorched and sometimes collapsed buildings for victims alive and dead, local press reports.

According to state-run Zhejiang News, the truck was exiting a highway when the accident occurred. Burning cars littered the highway in both directions after the blast.

Video showing rising smoke indicates that the tanker truck caught fire first, triggering the blast.
