Phoenix firefighters battled a second alarm freight train fire Friday evening with a hazmat component.

As many as five railcars derailed and caught fire as the train moved through downtown Phoenix, local media reports. Arriving firefighter initiated a defensive operation to protect surrounding exposures.

Due to a ruptured fuel tank flames engulfed the locomotive, making the fire difficult to control. Extinguishment took nearly 90 minutes, according to the Phoenix Fire Department Facebook site.

No firefighters were injured. The cause remains under investigation.
