Fire gutted a candle factory Thursday morning in the Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, firefighters report.

The Facebook page for SSP Yucatan states that fire broke out about 6:29 p.m. at the candle factory in Conkal. Nearby residents were the first to report the fire.

The plant manager told Diario de Yucatan that the fire started in a warehouse used to store plastics and cardboard. It was feared the fire would spread to the plant’s production floor and where wax is kept.

Bringing the fire under control took firefighters more than an hour. No injuries were reported.
