Portuguese Medical Gas Plant Draws Mutual Aid Response

Fire broke out Monday at a plant in northwest Portugal specializing in medical gases for use in hospitals.

Shortly before 8 p.m., firefighters were alerted to a blaze at ADA Fios in Santo Tirso. Within two hours more than 70 firefighters from Santo Tirso and six surrounding communities were on the scene bringing 24 emergency vehicles, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection reports.

Reports indicate that the massive fire was still burning Tuesday morning.
