A diesel fueled electrical generator in use at a factory that makes generators caught fire Friday morning in western France.

A cloud of smoke lingered over the Kohler-SDMO factory between Brest and Gouesnou nearly six hours after the fire started at 6 a.m. Firefighters brought the flames under control within a couple of hours.

“The incident, very localized, caused large black smoke, but the rapid reaction of our teams and the immediate intervention of the firefighters made it possible to control the situation,” the Kohler-SDMO Facebook page states.

Although no environmental impact is expected, the smell of the fire permeated the surrounding neighborhood.
