After burning nearly seven days a warehouse storing industrial waste was finally extinguished by South Korean firefighters Wednesday afternoon, local media report.

The fire, which broke out shortly before midnight on June 25, destroyed more than 9,000 tons of waste inside the 4,040 square meter warehouse in Gunsan City, part of Jeollabuk province on South Korea’s west coast.

Hazards identified with the waste stored on site has made it difficult to investigate the cause of the fire, police report. The owner of the warehouse is already under investigation for violation of the Waste Management Law in a warehouse fire in April.

More than 600 firefighters were deployed during the fire, the Jeonbuk Fire Department reports. Nearly a third of the 150 piece of apparatus deployed were water pumps.
