Thick black smoke dominates the sky above a food processing plant Sunday in Spain.

Fire damaged nearly 75% of a food processing plant Sunday morning in the Catalonia region of Spain, local media report.

The plant, located in Sant Vicenç de Castellet, covers an area of 3,500 square meters, and was not in operation at the time of the fire.

Firefighters with the Generalitat Fire Department responded to the scene with 10 fire crews. Smoke from the fire was so thick that fire department dispatchers were flooded with nearly 150 telephone calls reporting the fire.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, local media report.
