Eleven people suffered injuries Saturday morning in a massive fire at a high-rise plastics factory in Uiwang, South Korea.

Three of the injured are listed in critical condition, local media report. Witnesses report hearing an explosion prior to the fire.

Save for some smaller lingering blazes, the main fire at the Uiwang Plastic Products factory was extinguished by about 12:15 p.m., fire authorities state. Fire or more fire stations fielding 41 emergency vehicles responded to the fire scene.

Work to update the facility was underway when the fire broke out, authorities said.
