A fire causing extensive damage broke out Monday afternoon in the ventilation system at a chemical plant in north central Germany.

Damage from the fire brought the exhaust air system crashing down onto the roof of the production hall, local media report. Preliminary estimates placed the damage at nearly EUR 200,000.

Workers noticed smoke from the fire before the alarm system activated. Only then was the fire in the ventilation system discovered, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

No injuries were reported.
