UPDATE: As of nearly 30 hours after the explosion Monday the death toll in the Xiantao City chemical plant explosion stands at six.

Five people were injured and four remain missing after an explosion in a chemical plant Monday in central China, local media report.

At about 5:30 p.m., an explosion rocked the Hubei Bluesky New Material Inc. chemical plant in Xiantao City, about 930 kilometers east of Shanghai. Video shows massive black plumes of smoke rising from the plant.

Hubei Bluesky specializes in silicon chemistry, producing more than 80,000 tons of Silane crosslinking and coupling agents. Fifty to 100 workers are employed at the plant, CGTN reports.
