Nearly 2,000 gallons of hot tar spilling from an overturned tanker truck threatened to pollute a tributary of the Ohio River in southwestern Ohio Thursday morning, local media report.

Emergency personnel quickly intervened to block the heated tar running into a ditch beside the road.

The truck, that overturned near the banks of the Great Miami River, contained 5,800 gallons of tar heated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The tar that spilled will be allowed to cool before being removed, Miami Township Fire Chief Steve Ober said.
