Firefighters in England closely monitored a silo fire at a malting plant in Essex that burned more than seven hours, local media report.

At about 6:40 p.m. Monday firefighters from the Essex Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to Crisp Maltings in Mistley. Seven fire engines and an aerial ladder responded to the scene.

Residents nearby were warned to stay indoors with their windows closed during the emergency.

Fire crews worked through the night to control the fire and safely remove the product from the silo involved. Firefighters left the scene at 2:42 a.m. Tuesday after making a last check of the temperature inside, the EFRS Facebook page states.
