A boiler breakdown ignited a fire at a chemical plant in central Taiwan that took nearly three hours to extinguish Monday, local media report.

At about 12:48 a.m., firefighters in Taichung City were dispatched to the plant fire in the Wuqi District. The initial response of six emergency vehicles and 12 firefighters was soon upgraded to eight vehicles and 19 firefighters.

Firefighters applied large quantities of water to cool the fire. Meanwhile, plant workers performed the necessary procedures to empty and cool the boiler.

No one was injured in the emergency. Details as to the cause are still under investigation.
