Firefighters in central Taiwan spend two hours Wednesday morning battled a blaze at a plastic injection molding factory, local media report.

At about 7:40 a.m., the Taichung City Fire Department arrived at the burning factory. Mutual aid was immediate requested from Shengang, Qingquin and Daya, who dispatched seven additional fire trucks.

At the height of the emergency more than 100 firefighters were on the scene. However, their efforts were hindered by lack of water.

Thick black smoke rose straight into the air, making the fire visible for miles. Eventually, the flames spread through two factories, destroying almost 1,800 square meters of production space.

Because the fire broke out before the workday started no workers were at risk. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
