A fire at a swimming pool chemical plant Monday morning shut down Interstate 20 in Conyers, Georgia, local media report.

At about 6:30 a.m., fire broke out in a warehouse at BioLab Inc., part of KIK Custom Products. Chlorine vapor rose from the burning building, witnesses report.

Fire officials report that nearly a dozen shipping pallets loaded with dry chemical caught fire. The material had to be removed from the warehouse before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.

Two previous fires at the same plant in the last 16 years required area evacuations. No evacuations were necessary in this case.
