A fire in a derelict factory Wednesday night in England’s West Midlands is being investigated as an arson, local media report.

West Midlands Fire Service investigators are working with a structural engineer to determine if the building in Walsall must be removed.

Huge flames billowed from the upper story windows and through the roof when firefighters arrived shortly before 7 p.m. Smoke from the fire forced the evacuation of nearby homes and led to local road closures.

West Midlands Fire Service dispatched seven fire engines and an aerial device to the scene. Firefighters drafted water from a nearby canal to fight the flames.

No injuries were reported.

A fire in a former leatherwork factory on the same street last June was determined to have been arson.
