A semi-truck hauling about 8,000 gallons of fuel overturned onto its side Friday morning near the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in Pennsylvania.

The semi-truck was negotiating a roundabout shortly after 9 a.m. when it tipped onto its side. Less than 100 gallons of fuel leaked from the vehicle but none from the tanker, local media report.

Route 315 and the airport exit off Interstate 81 South were closed nearly eight hours to allow for cleanup and transferring fuel to another tanker. Hazmat crews were forced to drill holes in the side of the overturned tanker so that fuel could be transferred.

Hose streams were concentrated on the crew cutting the hole allow no chance for ignition.

No local water source was threatened by the spilled fuel. With the fuel pumped out, the semi-truck was righted and towed away.
