A tanker semi-rig hauling 8,400 gallons of gasoline overturned and burst into flames Sunday evening in west central Virginia.

Fire blocked the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 460 in Giles County with traffic stacking up for miles, local media report. Because of pavement damage only one lane was open in either direction Monday afternoon.

According to state police, the semi-rig left the roadway and ignited when it overturned. Hazmat teams were called in to help with cleanup after the fire.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the location has been scene of big rig accidents before.
