Massive Smoke Results From Recycling Fire in Italy

Bales of paper and other material caught fire Monday at a recycling plant in southern Italy, releasing a massive plume of smoke into the atmosphere.

Fire crews throughout the province of Catanzaro converged on Soverato to battle the blaze, local media report. Firefighters used heavy equipment to separate and break apart the burning bales.

The fire originated outdoors and spread into a storage shed that was destroyed.
