Smoke from a roof fire rises above a snack plant Wednesday in northern Itaty.

A roof fire broke out Wednesday morning at a snack plant in northern Italy, shutting down operations.

At about 3 a.m., a fire alarm sounded at the Balocco plant in Fossano, local media report. Cuneo province. A cookie oven overheated, igniting the roof insulation above and creating a massive cloud of smoke.

About 100 workers were evacuated from the plant with no injuries.

Fire officials dispatched 30 firefighters from the communities of Cuneo, Fossano, Savigliano and Busca. The fire was under control by 10 a.m. with another two hours spent extinguishing the lingering hot spots.

A spokesman said the company hoped to have repairs made and resume production by Wednesday evening.
