Two firefighters suffered minor injuries Thursday morning battling a six-hour fire at a hydrogenation and oil purification factory in western Portugal.

One firefighter suffered first and second-degree burns to his legs. A second firefighter suffered “psychological trauma due to the scale of explosions,” SIC Noticias reports.

At about 1 a.m., fire broke out at the Vestan cooking oils factory in Montijo, Setubal District. At the height of the fire response 70 emergency personnel and 26 emergency vehicles were on the scene.

Fire brigade from Montijo, Barreiro Alcochete and Pinhal Novo responded to the fire.

At one point, flames spread into the parking lot of a neighboring paint factory. By 7 a.m., firefighters extinguished the overall blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
