Flames consumed a 300-square-meter automobile paint factory Friday morning in eastern Taiwan.

At about 4 a.m., fire broke out at the paint factory in Hualien, county seat of Hualien County, local media report. Witnesses heard explosions inside and reported that a “smoke tornado” rose from the buckled shell of the sheet iron building.

More than 10 vehicles were parked inside waiting to be painted, owners report.

Six teams totaling nearly 70 firefighters managed to extinguish the fire within two hours. The factory was closed during the early-morning hours so no injuries were reported.
