A fire in an abandoned tea warehouse Saturday afternoon in the northern France port city of La Harve cast a thick pall of smoke across the sky.

At about 1:45 p.m., fire broke out in a 3,000-square meter former warehouse for Lipton Tea near the harbor, local media report. Nearly 70 firefighters and 25 emergency response vehicles responded to the scene.

Authorities evacuated 300 people from the nearest buildings. Despite a shelter-in-place request of all other residents, large crowds collected in the streets near the fire.

No casualties were reported.
