Towering smoke rose above the eastern China city of Quzhou Monday when an open vat of boiling residues ignited at a chemical plant.

The fire broke out at Zhongtian East Fluorine Silicon Material Company, a business specializing in silicon monomer, fluorine silicon and silicon sealant. Few details are available other than at least two large explosions rocked the plant, the second occurring at 6 p.m, local media report.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze with no injuries to workers or emergency personnel.

Environmental officials report that air monitoring is being conducted.
