Two workers died and two were injured in a fire Thursday at a petrochemical factory in southwestern Iran, according to Iranian state television.

The two-hour fire erupted at Kharg Petrochemical Company on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, 25 kilometers off the Iranian coast. Authorities blamed the fire on carbohydrate materials being unloaded from storage tanks at the time.

One of the fatalities leapt from an elevated platform where the fire broke out, local media report.

Kharg Island is known as Iran’s biggest crude export terminal.
