What began as an electrical substation fire expanded into a major blaze Monday morning at a food container plant in southwestern Japan, local media report.

At about 9:30 a.m., fire erupted in a substation on the roof of the 6,300 square-meter FPCO Cbubu factory in Wanochi, Gifu Prefecture, generating a massive amount of smoke. Authorities dispatched more than 15 fire engines to the scene.
