Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc.

Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc., a subsidiary of REV Group® and leading manufacturer of fire apparatus, announces that ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery has chosen Ferrara as the manufacturer for its latest fire equipment purchase.

ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery, located 40 miles southwest of Chicago, will add a Ferrara Inferno® Industrial Super Pumper® to its fleet of fire and rescue equipment.

Chief Michael Smith, ExxonMobil Joliet Refinery, explains that Ferrara stepped up to meet the safety needs of the refinery. “We needed a high-flow apparatus to meet growing infrastructure flow challenges at our location,” Smith explains. “Increased maneuverability was also essential, and we had an extreme delivery time restraint. Ferrara was able to meet all of our needs and more with the Inferno unit.”

The design team at Ferrara collaborated with the Joliet Refinery to determine the best apparatus and options for the refinery’s unique needs. The final choice is a heavy-duty, two-door Inferno Series cab and chassis with a MAXX-Strength 3/16-inch marine grade extruded aluminum body construction.

The unit is equipped with the Wireless Remote Controlled Task Force Tips Tsunami deck gun, which eliminates the need for five or six firefighters to set up large flow transportable monitors. This saves both resources and time. As Smith explains, “Less setup time always makes for a safer scene.”

The apparatus also features the new FoamPro® AccuMax® Fusion multi-point direct injection foam system capable of 300 GPM of concentrated flow and dual 3” foam intake connections. This adds significant versatility to the refinery’s fleet that mostly uses balanced pressure foam systems.

“The addition of the Super Pumper will allow our refinery to respond to plant emergencies quickly and with fewer personnel,” Chief Smith says. “It is a testament to those dedicated to safety and the emergency preparedness of the Joliet Refinery.”
