Black Box, an industry-leading provider of IT connectivity solutions, has released a new range of compact, palm-sized Magikk wearable IoT devices for connected workers in industrial environments. Loaded with multiple sensors and voice alert capabilities, the compact Magikk devices provide real-time location tracking and communications functionality that enhance safety and security for employees in lone-worker scenarios, hazardous workplaces and in general, remote field workforce.

“Our new line of Magikk devices is the first to enable remote situational awareness through IoT,” said Amit Chatterjee, head of IoT at Black Box. “Enabling real-time visualization and two-way communications for workers in a wide variety of industrial environments, these new wearable devices significantly enhance worker safety and site security.”

Combining sensor data with satellite positioning, Magikk gives the command-and-control center and the safety officer full visibility into worker movement at remote locations. Each device connects seamlessly with enterprise EHS compliance systems, with complete reporting of any violations and mitigation responses. A built-in industrial and workforce safety system facilitates immediate detection and communication of potential violations and emergency events.

To facilitate visualization, control and monitoring by users on the go, a mobile app and browser-based version of Magikk deliver alerts for any violation in no-entry or hazardous zones. Managers and supervisors can easily create geo-fences with the user-friendly Magikk control interface to demarcate restricted zones and areas.

Widely used for lone-worker scenarios such as pipeline monitoring, rail track monitoring, utility network monitoring, airport tarmac inspection, and municipal workers monitoring, as well as sparsely staffed construction sites and industrial plants, Magikk wearable devices serve as a first responder system. At a single button press, a Magikk device sends out key information (voice or data) that allows supervisors or employers to respond quickly to an emergency or life-threatening situation. Immediate two-way communications help responders to provide appropriate employee support.

Magikk devices can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -20° to +60° Celsius and are resistant to water and dust. Each Magikk wearable IoT device comes with a charging cable, battery and lanyard.
