The MSA Group has begun accepting applications for its 2020 Globe Gear Giveaway that will award 13 departments with four sets of turnout gear and four helmets, the company has announced.

The program is sponsored by MSA, DuPont, and the National Volunteer Fire Council.

MSA has been doing the program since 2012. Since that time, 507 sets of turnout gear have been awarded to 108 departments. That equates to more than $1 million worth of personal protective equipment given away. MSA began giving away helmets in 2019.

“Volunteer fire departments often struggle to fund the resources and equipment necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Steve Hirsch, the council's chair.

Eligible departments must be more than 50% volunteer, serve a population of 25,000 or less, be located in the U.S. or Canada, demonstrate significant need for new gear, and the person applying must be the chief or a council member.
