Plumes of black smoke were visibile from miles away on Tuesday afternoon in San Jose.

A three-alarm fire that started in a San Jose, California, auto body shop on Tuesday afternoon spread to a nearby pallet yard, where it escalated to four alarms before firefighters extinguished it.

The San Jose Fire Department responded to the 1700 block of S. 10th St. near CEFCU Stadium in an industrial area of the city, the agency announced in a tweet. It was reported at 2:34 p.m.

The fire spread to a nearby pallet yard, and firefighters called for a fourth alarm. A nearby warehouse roof also caught fire, reports KPIX.
