Residual oil coating unused equipment caught fire Sunday at one of the multiple oil refineries in Novokuybyshvsk, Russia.

The fire, which broke out at about noon, was contained and extinguished within 45 minutes, the State Ministry for Emergencies in the Samara region reports.

Novokuybyshvsk refinery’s primary distillation capacity is 8.8 million tons per year (64.35 million bbl). The plant refines oil from Orenburg Region, Western Siberia, and the Samara region.

Authorities blamed the fire on ignition of residual oil coating equipment in a decommission process unit.

Because the fire involved a refinery, 70 firefighters operating 19 pieces of apparatus were dispatched. No injuries were reported.
