Fire destroyed a rubber recycling plant in Sarigam, India, Friday.

Finished products and raw material were destroyed Friday night in an intense fire at a plant manufacturing rubber goods in Sarigam, India.

Flames swept through Dashmesh Rubber Industries located in an industrial park in Sarigam’s Valsad district, local media report. A neighboring plastics plant, Navyug, was also damaged in the blaze.

At about midnight firefighters arrived on the scene. Twenty-five workers were able to safely evacuate the burning plant.

With eight tenders on the scene and more than 25 firefighters, the fire took nearly eight hours to bring under control. The company recycles tires and other rubber products to produce material used to make shoes.

The loss was estimated at nearly $2 million U.S.
