Fumes from a recycling plant fire nearly 30 miles away wafted through Barcelona, Spain, Wednesday morning, triggering an air quality alert through the region.
The fire broke out about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Granollers northeast of Barcelona, local media report. Strong winds moving out to sea pushed the strong aroma through the city.
Civil protection in Catalan activated its emergency chemical risk plan to monitor the situation.
