A tanker truck carrying hydrochloric acid overturned Saturday night in eastern Malaysia, spilling its load and killing the driver.

The driver, traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Bentong, lost control of the vehicle which slammed into a wall and overturned, local media report. Firefighters used heavy equipment to pry open the cab and remove the fatality.

Hazardous materials teams acted to neutralize the acid and remediate the accident scene. Five fire trucks and 35 firefighters from nearby fire department responded.

One lane of the roadway remained closed for nearly nine hours.
