A worker at a northwestern Taiwan factory died Tuesday afternoon after being trapped in a dormitory fire, local media report.

Firefighters rescued a second worker also trapped by the flames.

At 4:24 p.m., fire broke out in a third-floor dormitory at the factory in Taoyuan, near New Taipei City. Fire officials dispatched 75 firefighters, 26 fire trucks and three ambulances to the scene.

The fire soon involved nearly 100 meters of factory space. Firefighters entering the reinforced concrete building to search for victims found two trapped workers, one still conscious and the other dead.
