Ten workers received serious burns and dozens more suffered smoke inhalation in a boiler explosion at a meat packing plant Wednesday in northeastern Egypt.

Firefighter brought the resulting blaze under control in about 30 minutes, local media report.

Doctors listed at least 10 of the workers hospitalized in critical condition. Co-workers at the plant reportedly used fire extinguishers to put out the workers’ burning clothes.

Suez Canal University Hospital received the injured and assembled a special team of burn experts to supervise their care.

The cause of the blast remains under investigation.
