An explosion in a chemical factory Thursday in western India proved powerful enough to kill 12 workers in a garment factory next door.
Local media report that 12 bodies and nine survivors were pulled from the demolished structures after a nine-hour rescue operation in Ahmedabad, Gujurat state.
The blast at Shahil Enterprises chemical factory tore through a wall dividing it from the Kanika Texo Fab garment factory. The buildings collapsed and fire erupted, threatening surrounding businesses.
