Two people suffocated to death when liquid nitrogen leaked Tuesday night at a food processing plant near Los Angeles.
At about 7 p.m., personnel at the Golden West Food Group plant in Vernon, California, reported a gas leak to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, local media report. Firefighters arrived to find a man and woman unconscious in a refrigerated room.
Despite being rushed to local hospitals, the two victims later died.
Hazardous materials experts determined the leaking substance to be liquid nitrogen, fire official report.
